Baltic Circle 2025 – Free Events

A midnight walk, a visible mending workshop, and the three-day culmination of a historic Sámi report.

This year, Baltic Circle invites you to take part in the following acts of care and resistance completely free of charge:

Women Walk at Midnight — Saturday 22.11.

Dress warmly and join artist Mallika Taneja for the first edition of the Women Walk at Midnight -project on Helsinki streets. The evening begins with prelude of tea and conversation at the Harju Morgue at 10 PM, before we step into the night together and make our way towards the city centre. This global practice invites women, trans, and non-binary participants to reclaim city streets after dark, and to walk in solidarity and active hope for a world where everyone can move freely, even at midnight. Prior to the walk, Taneja takes the Espoo Theatre stage on 21 and 22 November for her performance Be Careful, a sharp satire that challenges the warped hegemonies around women’s safety.

Visible Mending Workshop — Wednesday 26.11.

Before Flis Holland and Joy Mariama Smith’s Everyday Priorities showcase at Kanneltalo, join textile designer Nora Bremer in the lobby at 4 PM for a workshop on visible mending. Learn how repair can become both an act of preservation and a form of creative exploration using techniques such as sashiko, bead embroidery, and darning. Festival materials, including embroidered patches and ribbons of poetry, will be available for your use. Bring a garment or textile to mend or decorate. No prior experience required.

Towards Reconciliation — 4.–6.12.

In December, you are invited to witness a historic three-day ceremony at the Finnish National Theatre, where the Sámi Truth and Reconciliation Commission will present the reading of its final report. Based on personal testimonies and extensive research on issues central to Sámi life, the report will be formally delivered to the Finnish Government during Independence Day week. The event calls on Finland’s national institutions to commit to the Commission’s recommendations and take concrete steps toward reconciliation and the realization of Sámi rights in Finland.

All events are free and open to all. Come as you are.
