What the Cirk? programme by Cirko – Center for New Circus takes place during Baltic Circle. Since 2016 the collaboration has been shuffling the curtain between theatre and new circus and bringing together performers from both fields. This year What the Cirk? takes the form of the Academy of Artistic Thinking, along with a festival club on Friday night.

The Academy of Artistic Thinking aims at developing dramaturgical and critical thinking. It invites performing artists to share  thoughts and to learn with and from another. The project includes a two-year course organised in collaboration with the Open Campus of Helsinki University of the Arts, as well as two performance productions. The first teaching period of the course takes place during Baltic Circle, with Ville Sanqvist, Doctor of Arts, Theatre and Drama, and Saana Lavaste, Professor of Directing at Theatre Academy of Uniarts Helsinki, as its mentors.

On Sunday, November 18, from 1–3pm there is an open discussion for sharing experiences on the festival week’s performances. Welcome!
