The new Managing Director will start in her position in April.
The board of Baltic Circle has appointed Tiff Tian Zhang as Managing Director of Baltic Circle ry. Previously she has worked in New York and Shanghai, holding the role of Senior Producer of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning immersive theatre production, Sleep No More. In addition to the post as the Managing Director of Baltic Circle, Zhang continues her work as the Executive Producer of One Hundred, an international creative studio dedicated to crafting immersive experiences, on planning and producing various art and commercial projects.
“I am excited to start working with Tiff. The way she understands both the essence of the festival and the principles of international production, opens an inspirational new era for Baltic Circle. In the time of heavy financial cuts in the arts and culture sector, we want to explore new financial models and look beyond the familiar, Eurocentric culture“, says Hanna Parry, the Artistic Director of Baltic Circle.
“I am truly honoured and excited to take on the role of Managing Director at Baltic Circle, advocating for its commitment to fostering artistic innovation, cultural exchange, and initiatives focused on sustainability and equity. Having experienced Baltic Circle’s dedication to diversity and inclusion in its hiring process, this appointment fills me with pride”, says Zhang.
“As I step into the role of Managing Director, I am eager to collaborate with the vibrant community of international and Finnish artists, supporters, and partners to forge new connections, break down barriers, and explore innovative avenues that will further solidify Baltic Circle’s position in the global cultural landscape.”
Baltic Circle thanks warmly Asta Teräväinen who acted as Managing Director from 2021.
“In her tenure, Asta Teräväinen has boldly developed Baltic Circle in a new more sustainable direction. Under Teräväinen’s leadership, the festival embarked on a new chapter as it separated from Q Theatre to become an independent association. We now look eagerly towards what the future holds for Baltic Circle”, thanks Juho Keinänen, the chair of Baltic Circle ry.
The next Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival takes place in Helsinki from November 22–30, 2024. The programme will be published in October.
